Troubleshooting sign-in problems

Common reasons sign-in fails and what to try first.

Updated Aug 19, 2026

Most sign-in failures fall into one of four buckets.

"We couldn't find an account with that email"

Either you used a different address when you signed up (check for
typos and trailing whitespace) or the account was closed. If you
know the account exists but can't reach the email, see the
account recovery guide.

"Wrong password"

Try the value stored in your password manager once. If that fails, use
Forgot password rather than guessing — repeated failed attempts can
temporarily hold the account as a defence against password guessing.

"Verify your email"

A new account needs email verification before sign-in works. The
verification email is sent immediately on sign-up; check spam,
then click Resend verification on the sign-in screen. Spam
filtering is the single most common cause; allow-list
noreply@outastory.com if your provider lets you.

"Account temporarily disabled"

The account has been flagged for moderator review. This happens
after multiple ToS-violation reports or after fraud detection
triggers (rare). Open a support ticket with the
topic "Account" and we'll get back to you with the specific
reason within one business day.

Still stuck?

Open a ticket with the topic "Technical",
include your browser + OS, the exact error message, and the
time of the attempt. Our team has access to the sign-in audit
log and can usually pinpoint the cause within a few minutes.
