What OutaStory is
OutaStory is a place to read and publish stories — short fiction, novels in instalments, and audio versions you can listen to instead of reading. It is run from Hanover, Germany, by OutaStory GmbH.
Where the stories come from
Two sources, and we label which is which.
Writers who publish here. Anyone with an account can write, publish and be read. Their work is theirs; we don't claim it and we don't sell it on.
Our own founding catalogue. A shelf nobody has stocked is not a bookshop. Before the first writer arrived we wrote a catalogue to open with, so that the first reader through the door had something to read. Those stories are ours, they are marked as AI-assisted like everything else, and they exist to be read rather than to fill a page count.
We tell you when AI was involved
Every story written with the help of AI carries a visible marker on its page, and it stays there. Cover art generated by a model carries a machine-readable provenance marker in the image file itself. Audio narration is synthetic unless a page says otherwise, and we say so.
We do this because the EU AI Act asks us to, and because a reader deserves to know what they are reading. We would rather label honestly and be judged on the writing.
What we will not publish
- Someone else's text passed off as new writing.
- Anything that needs a licence we don't hold.
- Content that sexualises minors, or that targets a real person with abuse.
- Bulk-produced filler. A story has to be worth somebody's evening.
If something here is wrong
Every story page has a report control, and a report reaches a person, not a queue that nobody opens. If you own the rights to something published here, write to us and we will take it down while we look into it — we would rather remove first and discuss after.
