You never have to remember a page number. OutaStory keeps your place for
you, in every story you open.
It saves itself
Every time you turn a page, your position is written down. There is no
bookmark to set and no Save button — if you close the app mid-sentence,
that sentence is where you come back to.
It works even if you are not signed in, in the browser you are using.
Sign in and it stops being tied to one browser and starts following your
account instead, so a story you began on a laptop is waiting at the right
page on your phone.
Where to find it again
- The home page has a Continue reading row as soon as you have
started something. That is the fastest route back. - The story's own page shows the main button as Continue reading
with how far through you are, and opens at the saved spot. - Read again is a separate row for stories you have finished, so
completing something does not make it disappear.
There is no separate history page, and that surprises people who go
looking for one. Those rows are the history.
"Completed"
A story counts as completed when you reach the end of the last chapter.
Once that has happened it stays marked, even if you go back and re-read —
the mark is "you have been all the way through this", not "you are not
reading it now".
Your place survives the author editing the story
This is worth knowing if you follow serials. Your position is remembered
as a point inside a chapter, not as a page number, so it stays
correct when an author edits a chapter, adds one, or releases parts in a
different order than you expected.
If a chapter you were inside is removed entirely, you are put back at the
beginning of the story rather than somewhere that no longer exists.
Two things that do not follow you
- Where you are in a narration. Reading position syncs; audio resume
position stays on the device where you paused it. - Offline downloads. A story downloaded on your phone is not
downloaded on your tablet. See

Forgetting a story
Open the story, use the ⋮ menu at the top of the reader, and choose
Forget this story. That clears your progress and its completed mark.
Your favourites are untouched.
If it puts you in the wrong place
- Check you are signed in on both devices. Signed out, your place
lives in one browser only. - Give it a moment. The position is saved as you turn the page; if
you force-quit the app on the very same page turn, the last one can be
lost. - Pull to refresh, or close and reopen the app — a cached story page
can show an old percentage. See
