Everything OutaStory tells you collects in one place: the notification
centre at /notifications. It works the same on the
web and in every app, and it is where to look when your phone shows
nothing.
Reading them
Open /notifications. Unread items are marked; the
bell icon carries a count of them.
Tap any notification to go straight to what it is about — the new
instalment, the reply, the trophy. Opening one marks it read.
Marking everything read
When something is unread, a Mark all read button appears in the
header. One tap clears the count on the bell without removing anything
from the list.
Removing a single notification
Every row has a small × on the right. Tap it and that notification
disappears from your list.
This is new — until August 2026 there was no way to remove a
notification on any platform, and the list only ever grew. If you
remember tidying up being impossible, that is why.
Clearing everything you have already read
When your list contains read notifications, a Clear read button
appears in the header. It removes all of them in one go and leaves
anything still unread exactly where it is.
That is the fast way back to an empty list: Mark all read, then
Clear read.
Three things to know before you clear
- There is no undo. No archive, no bin, no restore. Once a
notification is gone from your list it stays gone. - It only affects you. Dismissing a notice about a new instalment
does not remove it for anybody else who follows that story, and it
does not unfollow anything or change any setting. - Nothing else is deleted. The story, the comment, the trophy and
the reply are all untouched — you are only removing the little note
about them.
The list is capped at the newest 200
The notification centre shows your 200 most recent notifications.
Older ones drop off the bottom on their own, so a long-unused account
does not open a list thousands of rows deep.
If you rely on a notification, act on it rather than leaving it as a
to-do list.
Getting fewer of them in the first place
Clearing is the cure; the prevention lives at
/settings/notifications. Every kind of
notice can be switched off there, per channel — in-app, push and email
each on their own.
Account and security notices are always sent and cannot be switched off.
They can still be dismissed from the list once you have read them.
