Yuki Tanaka draws on Japanese folklore, Noh theatre, and a decade spent translating classical poetry to craft fantasy that moves at the pace of water finding its level. Her stories are quiet on the surface and devastating underneath, populated by spirits who remember the world before people named everything. She is based in Kyoto and publishes in both Japanese and English.
