For writers

Your space to create, publish and grow — on your terms.

A fair home for your writing

OutaStory is a publishing platform built around the writer. You keep the rights to your work, you decide when and how a story goes live, and publishing itself costs nothing: the workspace, the chapters, a generated cover, a description and your story's first full narration are all included, however many readers you find.

We are a platform, not a traditional publisher. There are no gatekeepers, and no editor rewrites your voice — you sign in, write, and publish when you are ready. There is an agreement, the writer terms, and we would rather point you at it than tell you it does not exist: it is versioned, written in plain language, and the exact version you accepted is recorded.

Write, revise and publish

Draft your story in a dedicated writing workspace, organise it into chapters, and keep working until it feels right. When a story is already live you can prepare its next version alongside it without touching what readers currently see, then publish the replacement when you are happy. Once out, any two published versions can be compared side by side, so a story's history stays visible.

Publishing is in your hands: choose the cover, set the age rating and the language, say whether AI helped you write it, and release the story — optionally with a narrated audio edition — whenever the moment is right. You can publish under a pen name, and readers see the pen name rather than the account behind it.

In the mobile and desktop apps the workspace keeps working when the network does not — write on a train with no signal and your drafts sync the moment you surface. A writing assistant is on hand too: something to think out loud at when a scene is not landing, never something to hand the chapter to.

Publish a novel one instalment at a time

A story does not have to be finished to find its readers. Publish it as a serial and release each chapter as it is ready, the way serial fiction has always reached its audience. Earlier instalments stay readable while you write the next, so the story grows in public and the readership grows alongside it.

You tell readers roughly when to expect the next part, and that estimate appears on the story page. Nothing publishes itself: releasing a chapter is your button to press, so a date that slips is a date you move, not a chapter that goes out too early. Readers can subscribe and be notified the moment the next part lands.

Production tools that do the heavy lifting

OutaStory gives every writer a small studio. Generate a cover image or build one layer by layer in the cover designer, let the platform draft a tempting description from your own text, and turn your chapters into natural-sounding audio with high-definition neural voices — all without leaving the site or hiring a designer or narrator.

Nearly all of it is free, and it is worth being precise about where that stops. A generated cover, a generated description and your first full narration cost nothing. A free cover carries a small OutaStory mark in one corner, which Premium removes. Beyond that first narration — extra audio versions, a cloned voice of your own — there are credits, and the price is shown before you spend one.

Where a machine made something, the file says so. Every AI-generated cover carries a machine-readable marker in its metadata declaring it as AI-generated, as European law requires, and synthetic narration is disclosed to the listener before playback starts.

Give your story a human voice

Alongside OutaStory's built-in AI voices, you can commission a professional human narrator to bring your story to life through OutaStory's speaker marketplace. Browse the speakers and listen to their samples, send an offer, agree a price — and your payment is held safely until the finished narration is delivered and added directly to your story, with no outside coordination needed.

Share in the revenue

Reading on OutaStory is supported in part by advertising, and writers share in that revenue: 55 % to the author against 45 % to the platform, set out in a published revenue-share policy rather than left to our discretion. An earnings dashboard tracks it per story and per month, with downloadable statements and a €25 payout threshold.

Where this actually stands: the ledger, the dashboard, the threshold and the payout-account onboarding are all live, and earnings accrue today — but no payout has gone out yet, because the advertising side that funds it is still being brought up to a level worth distributing. And if a figure ever looks wrong, there is a formal dispute path with a person at the end of it.

Find readers and grow

Every writer gets a public author page — a bio, a follower count, and everything you have written in one place — so a reader who liked one story can find the rest. Insights then show how those stories are actually read: reads, unique readers, how long people stay, how many reach the end and what share that is, chapter by chapter.

Readers can follow you and subscribe to your serials, so a new chapter reaches the people already waiting for it without you announcing it anywhere. Your author page carries links to your own site and social profiles, the recommendation engine puts your work in front of readers whose taste already matches it, and community contests are built in.

Your rights stay yours

Publishing on OutaStory never signs your work away. The copyright stays with you, the rights revert to you when the agreement ends, and you can take a story down. What you grant us is the licence we need to show your story to readers, plus the right to promote it — your name, your author image, your bio, quotations from the story.

Two clauses are worth reading rather than skimming. Section 11 asks for a right of first negotiation if your story is ever commercially exploited elsewhere, and section 12 runs termination on six months' notice to the end of a quarter. Neither touches your copyright, and both sit in the writer terms under those numbers.

Real stories by real people

Our position, stated exactly rather than as a slogan: a story on OutaStory has to be substantially written by you. Using AI to brainstorm, to edit, or to get unstuck is welcome and always has been — we build the tools for it. What is not allowed is a story you only prompted into existence and published as your own writing. If AI helped draft or substantially co-write it, you label the story.

That label does real work, which is why mislabelling matters: readers who have switched on the filter for hiding AI-generated content never see a story carrying it, and incorrect labelling is a breach of the terms rather than a slip. None of this is aimed at a writer using a tool well — it is aimed at keeping the human voice at the centre.
