Twelve years after a girl was smuggled from the Tideflag in a cask of oranges, a woman steps off a merchantman into the harbour that bore her name. Reyna Halleth carries nothing but a forged manifest and a letter her father wrote the night he knew he would die. Her half-brother has worn the regent's chain for those twelve years and intends to wear it twelve more. Her claim is no army, no treasury, only a brittle oath a salt-bitten sea-warden swore at a font of sea water when Reyna was still a child. The kingdom sits athwart the only navigable strait between two oceans; whoever rules it rules the weather of empires.
