Greta Alvarez is fourteen, a ninth grader at a mid-sized public high school in a Texas suburb, and she has just realized something the adults were hoping no one would: student government isn't actually a joke. She runs on a platform of unflattering specificity — the handbook is wrong about phones, wrong about lunch, and wrong about the kind of student it pretends to want — and she wins by forty votes. Then she does the thing no one expected. She starts using the office.
