OutaStory is one account across a lot of different screens. Here is the
honest map of where it runs today, and which store each app comes from.
On the web
OutaStory works in any modern browser, on a desktop, a laptop, a tablet
or a phone. There is nothing to install: you sign in and everything is
there. The web version is the most complete one, and a few pages exist
only there.
On Android
The Android app is available from
Google Play,
the Amazon Appstore,
Samsung and Uptodown. It is the same app in each place — pick
whichever one your device already uses. The Amazon build is for Fire
tablets and Fire TV; Amazon stopped supporting Android phones in 2025.
On iPhone and iPad
There is an OutaStory app on the
App Store. It is a
universal app, so the one download covers iPhone, iPad and the Mac — you
do not buy or install it three times.
If you would rather not install anything, OutaStory still works well in
Safari or any other browser on an iPhone or iPad. Add it to your home
screen and it behaves a lot like an app.
On macOS
The Mac is covered by that same
App Store listing.
On Windows
There is a Windows app in the
Microsoft Store,
plus a direct download from our website if you prefer to install it
yourself.
One account, the same library
Whichever way you open OutaStory, it is the same account. Your library,
your favourites, your follows and your reading position live on the
server, so you can start a chapter on your phone and finish it on a
laptop. See what syncs across
devices for the full list —
including the two things that deliberately do not sync.
Your Premium entitlement is part of that account too, so it applies
everywhere you sign in.
Where the apps differ from the web
A few things exist only in the apps, and a few only on the web:
- Offline reading is an app feature. A browser has nowhere to keep
a story, so it is not offered on the web. See reading
offline. - Widgets are Android only. See Android
widgets. - Push notifications are not available on every platform. The
in-app notification centre is. See push notifications by
platform. - The apps overview page at
/about/appsis a web page only. If you
are in an app, that address will simply take you to the general about
page instead.
Links between the app and the browser
Some OutaStory links open the app and some deliberately open a browser.
That is explained in opening links in the
app.
