Revenue share is not live. Nothing is being paid out today, no
balance is accruing that you can withdraw, and no start date has been
announced. Everything below describes how it is intended to work.
If you read anything here as a promise of money arriving, read it
again — it is a plan, not a schedule.
The idea
OutaStory earns money in two ways that are tied to stories: advertising
shown on story surfaces, and Premium subscriptions, which buy readers
an ad-free experience. The plan is that authors will share in both,
rather than only in one of them.
In other words, a story that is read by people who pay for Premium is
meant to count just as a story read by people who see ads does. Which
of the two a reader chose should not decide whether your writing earns
anything.
How the share is meant to be weighted
The intention is to weight the share mostly by time spent reading
your work — not by clicks, not by how many stories you have
published, and not by who shouts loudest. A smaller bonus is planned
for readers who finish what they start, so that a story which
holds people to the end counts for more than one that is opened and
abandoned.
That is deliberately a simple picture. The detailed policy — the
definitions, the conditions, and what has actually been decided — is
summarised in
How revenue share works.
What you can usefully do today
There is nothing to sign up for, and no queue to join. What is worth
doing anyway, because it helps you now and would help you later:
- Publish. Stories that exist and are being read are the whole
basis of any share. Nothing else substitutes for that. - Complete your author profile. A profile with a real bio, a
picture and a sensible author address gives readers a reason to
follow you rather than read one story and move on. - Keep your account details correct. Your name and contact details
on your account should be current and accurate. If anything is ever
needed from you, it will be needed from the account as it stands.
What we will not tell you yet
We are not naming amounts, thresholds, currencies, payment routes or
dates, because none of them are settled. Anywhere you see such a
number quoted for OutaStory, it did not come from us.
When revenue share does become real, it will be announced properly and
this article will be replaced with instructions rather than
intentions.
Where to read more, and where to ask
The published policy lives at
/legal/revenue-share. It is the text that
governs the scheme, so if something here and something there ever
disagree, the legal page wins.
If you have a question that neither page answers, open a ticket at
/help/contact. Questions about when it starts we
genuinely cannot answer yet, and we would rather say so than guess.
