SAMPLE — The Quiet Hour

A demo contest. The team uses this layout to test the contest experience end to end.

Runs from 4/1/2026 to 12/31/2026

Jury announces the winner by 1/15/2027

What this is

This is a sample contest. It exists so we can demonstrate the contest
layout, exercise the publish / unpublish flow, and give testers something
to walk through end to end. No prize will be awarded — please don't
submit a story expecting to win money.

The (pretend) brief

Write a short story set during one quiet hour anywhere in the world. The
story should be readable in a single 8–12 minute reading session. Anything
goes for genre — slice-of-life, sci-fi, mystery, whatever fits your voice.

Stories with strong opening hooks, well-observed setting detail, and a
satisfying close tend to do well in jury-judged contests. Audience voting
then narrows down the jury's shortlist to one winner, so accessible
storytelling helps too.

Reminders

  • Tag your story with sample-quiet-hour. The tag is the only enrolment
mechanism — there is no separate signup form.
  • Read the contest rules for eligibility, judging,
    and content limits.
  • This is a sample. No prize.

How to enter

Publish a story on OutaStory and tag it with sample-quiet-hour. Your story shows up automatically — no signup form, no fee.

How the winner is picked

The jury short-lists; readers vote for the winner from the short list.

Meet the jury

Sample Juror 1

A demo juror. Their bio is here so the layout can render with realistic text density. Replace with a real person's bio when this contest is replaced by a real one.

Sample Juror 2

A second demo juror — included so the jury grid renders with more than one column on wider viewports. Real contests should have at least three jurors.

Rules

Every entry follows the OutaStory contest rules — eligibility, content limits, jury impartiality, and prize delivery.
