The Good Spoon
There was only one good spoon. The other one was the bendy one.
I wanted the good spoon. My brother also wanted the good spoon.
I said, "I had the good spoon yesterday."
He said, "I had the bendy spoon yesterday."
We both went quiet. We both thought about this.
Mama said, "Whoever solves it gets the strawberry."
I looked at the spoons. He looked at the spoons.
He said, "If you take the bendy one today, you take the good one tomorrow."
I said, "And the day after, you take the good one. Then me. Then you."
He nodded very seriously, the way he does.
We worked it out on our fingers. We forgot to argue. The yoghurt was nearly gone before we noticed.
Mama gave us the strawberry. We split it down the middle. The middle was a little messy.
Even the bendy spoon was good for that.
