What My Hands Know
My hands feel things.
The rabbit. Soft. Soft, soft, soft.
The pebble. Smooth. Cool and smooth.
The pinecone. Bumpy. Bumpy and pointy.
The flower. Petals. Like paper. Soft and a little waxy.
The bark on the tree. Rough.
The leaf. So thin you can see your hand through it.
And — the cup of tea. Hot! Pull the hand back!
Gentle, gentle. The world is full of feelings, all the way down to my fingertips.
