Chapter One

# Chapter One: Wrong Car, Right Person Declan Murphy opened the passenger door of what he thought was his Uber and found himself staring at Theo Castellano, who he had not spoken to in seven years and who was very clearly not an Uber driver. "Get out of my car," Theo said. "I thought you were my ride to the airport," Declan said, which was true but unhelpful. They stared at each other. Theo looked almost exactly the same—dark curls, sharp jaw, the kind of brown eyes that made you confess things you had not planned to say. Declan's suitcase was already in the backseat because he had thrown it in before looking at the driver, which was, he now realised, a pattern in his life: leaping first and identifying the consequences later. "I'm driving to Portland," Theo said flatly. "I'm flying to Portland," Declan replied. A beat. Then Theo's phone buzzed: flight cancelled, storm warning, all departures grounded until Thursday. Declan looked at the rain hammering the windshield. Theo looked at the ceiling. "Fine," Theo said. "Get in. But we are not talking about senior year."
