A Missing Backpack

Lukas got home from school. He was very hungry. He took off his coat. He took off his shoes. He went to take off his backpack — and there was no backpack. "Mama," he called. "I left my backpack at school." "Are you sure?" said his mama. "Yes. My sandwich is in it. My maths book is in it. My best pencil case is in it." His mama sighed. "Lukas. Where did you have it last?" "I don't know." "Try to remember." Lukas sat down on the kitchen chair. He thought. Mama gave him an apple while he thought. "I had it at the bus stop, this morning." "Yes." "I had it on the bus." "Yes." "I had it when I got off the bus." "Probably." "I had it in the cloakroom — yes. I hung it on my hook." "Then it's in the cloakroom." "But I went to PE after that. PE is in the gym. We change there. And after PE we had break." "And then?" "And then maths. And then lunch. I picked up my sandwich at lunch from my backpack..." "So at lunchtime the backpack was in the cloakroom." "Yes." "Then?" Lukas frowned. He had to think very carefully.
